Self-Portraits
There is the paper and there is the person" ~ Francesca Woodman
ARTIST STATEMENT:
The modern world provides extreme convenience to self-portraits. It is as easy as opening a computer and snapping a photograph with an often unmemorable creation. The simplicity of taking photographs and sharing them has caused our society to become somewhat desensitized and numb to our own image, especially in the teen years. As time passes, the person you look at on that sheet of paper becomes alienated. It is no longer you. That person you are staring at becomes a foreign body.
Regardless of the tool used to capture your image I consider the thought process, the psychological and introspective self-reflection as well as the intention, to be the vital component of a true self-portrait."
